Florence and the Machine – Cosmic love:

A shot of a chest, with the light inside their chest and it's beating to the rhythm of a heart, and it goes into shallow focus, also change the shots and keep around 1-3 second shots on every sequence.

Inspirational Videos:
This is the video from Florence + The Machine which is the behind the screen of her song 'Spectrum'. Which this could help us on the planing that we could get some idea what we need to perpare.
The shiny glitter on her face and the lights we could use in our music video, it would be showed in our close up shots.
this could be the style of image we will use for the begging of the music video.

Music Video Analysis
Florence And The Machine - Spectrum
The video stars with a long shot and used rule of third of singer sitting in the light chair in a flamboyant place which suggest she is the protagonist of the video and she is powerful. The red outstanding hair and the shiny cloth let her standing out of the dark room.
A long shot of singer performing in the middle wearing a long white feather dress, ballet dancer dressing like the dancers in 'Swan Lake' standing around her in ordered. The lyric 'when we first came here, we were cold and we were clear' and 'we are shining 'could be represented by the white costume of the dancer which also visible in darkness.
With the climax of the song the dancers started dancing ballet, some of the feature of ballet could be seen, such as the lifting. The lyric 'say my name, and every colour illuminates,we are shining, and we will never be afried again' could are represent with the image, they are shining in darkness place, by the strong performance of the dancers. The scenes change to the performing of two dancers by a cutaway which suggest they not longer afried of anything metaphorically. Then the shot change to a medium close up of the singer with her confident performing.
A long shot of the singer performing in the midel of the scene with a shiny tight dress which looks like a mermaid, her feet are in the water, on her back there is an metaphor flamboyant throne, some 90s building around her, most of the lights of the building are turned on, on the left there is a clock which showed the time is about 4.40, with the sky color, this three feature suggest that now is sunset time. There is two man dressed exotic with a lots jewelries on, they keening in the water, suggest that the singer is a queen who is powerful.
The lyric 'with the ocean in my arm' represented by she splashing water in a longshot, suggest she could be the queen of the ocean.
Camera change in to a bonzer room with an transition. The singer lying chaise longue, a red ballet dancer performing on the left of the scene who is young that suggest audience she might be the singer's teenage time.
On the later climax of the song, ballet dancers start dancing morden dance and they start fighting each other, pulling other's hair etc., and the place are smokey and dirty. Those thing remind us the lyrics' when we first came here, we were cold and we were clear', suggest us they changed now, they are not like before. With the tempo of the music the lights are changing as well. Those sequence suggest they need someone's help, help they walk out the situation.
The music slows down, the camera jump to a lighter room with the singer and a dancer(who looks like the singer). The performing are in order again.
The end of the video, a hight angle shot of the singer crawling on the floor, suggest she want to get out from here, at the end a over head long shot of she lying on the floor without any movement which looks like she is dead that she didn't get away successful while the ballet dancers still performing.
This video's narrative are linear with a clear idea that the protagonist want to be strong and courageous.
By analysing this music video I learned that we need be careful of the mise en scen because it is a big part of the creation. And also good performing will help the narrative of the music which make the music video more attractive.

Magazine Advert Analysis
The typical features of an advert
usually contain:
·
The name of the artists in a prominent
position of the advert.
·
The cover and the name of the album.
·
The picture of the artists.
·
The place people could buy it, such as
the websites and shop.
The
magazine advert I looked at is The Coral - Butterfly House. The image
used in this advert is a black and red photo of the band members in a
place where have some trees with some small leafs on.
For the text on the advert, a gothic fonts is
used which created a mysterious atmosphere to the poster that suit the image of
the band. The fonts looks butterfly effect which could represent the name of the album 'BUTTERFLY HOUSE'. The color of the text is white that is in sharp contrast to the
poster that could attract audiences’ eyes. The name of the band is showing in
the biggest size on the upper left corner of the poster that audience could easily
know the singer, the name of the album, relate date and the type of product
that audience could buy (CD/2CD/VINYL/DY) are in middle of the left hand side
of the poster in a smaller size which keep the audience interest. The live time
of the band, the website of the band and the HMV logo also showed in the poster
in the smallest size at the bottom that gave the news of the band fans that
where they could go to listen the music and the way they could buy the album. The
text is sanding out the style of the band that they are cool and also professional.

Over all, from this poster I learned that the
color of the text of the poster could be in a strong contrast so that we could
attract audience. And also we need to chose the fonts and the size of the text
that we going to put on. But I think this poster is not a great one, the reason
is that this poster contain too many text which made this poster lose the heart
of what the band trying to tell the audience, such as the live time of the
band, if audience really interested in, they could go on line to search the information.
This poster is not creative, the image didn’t show many effect, we could do
better on it. More creative, more attractive!

Shots Count Task
The Killers - Runaway
The music video I chose is The Killers -
Runaway. The reason I chose it is not only that this is a typical indie rock
music which is the same genre of our own music that we want to working hard on,
but also The Killers is one of the most famous indie rock band in the world at
the moment, and Runaway contain the characteristics of indie rock music such as its melodies and riffs is angular.
The shots I count for the first minute of
music video is 12, but the over all account of camera shots would be more than 68. Because the first
mines of this sound is a bit slow, to coordinate the rhythm of the music, the
camera shots of the representation change slowly in the first mines. From 57
second, as the music rhythm go faster the frequency of camera shots changing
becoming faster. So the account of shots would be more than the 4 times of the
shots in the first mines.
The fist shot of the video is a tilt which showed the image of the star which
showed us the time is night. Medium
shots and pan were mainly
used in this music video to show the body
language and emotion of the
lead singer and the performing of the band. The shots of high angle show the lead singer standing alone in
the lights where out side the lights is all dark to represent the atmosphere which
brings a mind to audience that
people would like think about the life when they are alone specifically in
night time. The long shot
the road flashing towards show that a car running on the way during the night
because except the headlight of the car irradiate on the road that the
surrounding are all in the dark, this image also represent the lyric of the
music that someone want to runaway. Close up and rule of third were also used
in the video to help the representation of the music.
The costume that the band wear are all
black, such as black T-shirts and black jacket, this type of costume created
the image of the band which show the band members are clam and mature which
could prove the lyric of the sound 'I swore on the head of our unborn child
that I could take care of the three of us'. The color used in this video mainly
is black and red, red light was used when the band playing on the ground, each
members standing in on a red lights square, as I said the sounding are all in
black so we don't know the location. By
the side lighting, it gave us an idea that they might be inside of a room.
A creative editing are used. When the
camera shooting the lead singer singing the song alone, the back image are
changing from black to the cloudy sky and to the night time modern city to show
the emotion of the singer and also represent the lyric. Fast pace editing and
transition used to link each shots fluently. Some effects also used to create a
better vision for this music video which made the video more creative and
attractive, such as the blue lights drift around the band members in the air.
This music video haven't have a clear narrative for audience.
If I were the direct I will create a easy and clear story for this music and
edit it in the music video to help the audience understand the song and also to
attract them.
The main audience of this music video
would mainly be the people who like indie rock because indie rock is not like
pop that everyone will listen to. But of cause this type of music is easy
approved by audience, by the creative editing of the music video I would
say that the people who likes pop also could be the audience.
The genre of this music is indie
rock, a number of shots of the band performs and the mise en scen of the video
showed us a typical indie rock music video. Also represent by the musical
instruments and pace of the music.
For the representation, the lights and the
camera shots of the band members shows a male who has some thing that he try to
prove, but the real dose not allowed. The shots of the car driving on the road
show he is trying to escape and runaway from the real world. It created a good
image for this music.
Julian Opie Task

Lip Synic Task
Lipsyncing--The Show
We chose this song for our lipsyncing task because this song is in a slow pace and the lyric is easy for me to do the lipsyncing and also this song is a happy song that make people feel comfortable with. Before record the lipsyncing I listened this song for few time to make sure the pace of the music and we also printed out the lyrics of the song so that I won't make mistake on the lipsyncing.
This lipsyncing was record by Abbie Smith by a HD video camera. She used Final Cut to edited it like what we done on our first year media product.
